RATINGS
Atmosphere: 4/5 (décor not finished yet inside; excited for the pieces that Elemental Arthouse is making!)
Food: 4/5
Parking: 5/5 or 3/5 (if you're like Megan and love free valet it's a 5, if you're cheap like Shelby then it's a 3 #sketchyparkingoptions)
THINGS TO KNOW
Reservations: Yes (we used OpenTable)
Must Try: Tatchos, Tuitti Fruitti Milkshake
Meh: Beach Please, Piece of Cake (PB&J Brown Buttered Cake)
Sips (If I drink, you drink, we drink) ... Shelby's attempt at inserting alliteration, *insert Megan eyeroll.*
Beach Please: Pineapple, rum, coconut, orgeat almond syrup, montenegro. This doesn't taste like any beach we've been to. The almond syrup overpowered the other flavors. April said it reminded her of one of those 'nonsense coffee drinks'. Where was the piña? the colada? The getting caught in the rain?
Punching Bag: Flavor of the day was watermelon cilantro. Shelby was so excited about this. For weeks. Though we still love the concept, it didn't blow us away. Not nearly as Instagram worthy was we had hoped. It was a little watery, but otherwise had good watermelon flavor. Would try again with other flavor offerings #flylikeabutterflystinglikeabee
Savory
Tatchos: tator tots, lamb chili, beer cheddar, and scallions. Thumbs up! Nice take on classic chili cheese tots. We couldn't stop eating them!
Mac'n Cheese: cheddar, guyere, manchego, and persillade. This was a solid mac'n cheese. Stick to your ribs good creamy sauce. Megan is usually disappointed with restaurant mac'n cheese because, let's be honest, no one makes it like grammy does, but was actually pleased with this version. A good option to try, but next time I'll try to persuade Shelby to try the What's Kraken instead.
Bird is the Word: Chicken fried chicken, chorizo white gravy, salsa verde mashed potatoes. This was Maneet's interpretation of a classic southern chicken fried chicken dish. Kind of missed the mark. Nice execution of the chicken, breaded perfectly. But we can't even remember the gravy, and the gravy is just as important as the chicken in chicken fried chicken. But what really fell flat was the salsa verde mashed potatoes. Very little flavor, just plain green mashed potatoes.
Poultry in Motion: Cajeta chicken, spicy umami sauce, gochujang rice, and pickled salad. Chicken and sauce combination was delicious. Chicken was moist and tender and sauce was a nice blend of spices that were pretty in your face #emerilBAM. Rice and salad were eh (they were overpowered by the POWerful sauce).
Seoul Purpose: Bulgogi style flank steak, fried egg, potato latke waffle. This was classic steak and eggs.... that took a trip to Asia. Steak was good (a little too rare for Shelby). But it was PERFECT for someone who enjoys rare to medium rare steak (cough Megan cough). Sauce had great Asian flavors, but was a little too salty. Potato latke was the star of this dish. Waffle had a great waffle crust, wonderful balance of potato and onion flavor. Shelby kept sneaking bites off my dish. The greens should be exiled from this dish (but why stop there, they should be exiled from all of Nashville.) Very bitter, high pH, soapy. #dishruiner #whompwhomp
Sweet
Tuitti Fruitti Milkshake: fruity pebble ice cream, concord grape, and orange. You may be starting to notice a trend, but we love our childhood breakfast cereals! #wheresmyreesespuffs Was a nice blend of fruity pebble flavor and milk. Execution was a little inconsistent, soupy top and thick shake bottom. Get it right, get it tight.
Piece of Cake (PB&J brown buttered cake): it was like the Sahara Desert of cake- soooo dry and tasteless. The PB&J elements saved this dessert. Whipped peanut butter was AH-mazing, we couldn't stop eating it. The grape jelly sauce added some much needed moisture and flavor/sweetness.
"In conclusion"
Though we didn't love this as much as her Chauhan Ale and Masala House (go for brunch and dinner, you will thank us), it was only their first Saturday. We definitely will be coming back, ordering the tutti fruitti milkshake and trying the What's Kraken. Also next time, you better have the Three's Company waiting for us! #comeonknockonmydoor Also, how cute are these dish names??
