RATINGS
Atmosphere: 4/5
Food: 4/5
Parking: 3/5 (very fend for yourself, but not in a sketch neighborhood)
THINGS TO KNOW
Reservations: Yes (we used OpenTable)
Must Try: French toast, Whipped Feta (warning: it's inconsistent)
Meh: Breakfast Burrito
Sips
Kitty Wells: vodka, Benedictine, mint syrup, lemon, soda. Solid drink, nothing to write home about. Would probably order again, but not going to run around singing its praises.
Savory
Whipped Feta: fermented honey, cracked black pepper, and pita. Sooo Megan has had this three times now. But the third time was not the charm #semicharmedlife. The first two times she swore by it, but by the time it was in the spotlight for April and Shelby to try, it got stage fright and fell on its face. Way too many herbs. Herbs everywhere. Shelby is still haunted by the herbs. It was green. It's still definitely worth a try, but you better hope the person who prepares it is light handed with the herbs.
French Toast: apple butter, Wisconsin maple syrup, and candied walnuts. Cooked well, nice thick bread, walnuts added a blend of sweetness and crunchiness that brought textural diversity to the experience. Megan couldn't be more excited to see apple butter on the menu. It's her favorite thing on the planet (besides cotton candy). And boy did it deliver. Overall this dish had a wonderful blend of flavors, but the apple butter was the real star. Would definitely order again.
Breakfast Burrito: scrambled eggs, hashbrowns, chorizo, pepper jack cheese, pork green chile, and creme fresh. This dish had so much promise. We were so excited. But it did not deliver. It was freezing cold- like they pulled it out of the fridge and put it on a plate. Inside had good flavor with a little bit of a kick. April and Shelby thought it had the right amount of kick, Megan thought it needed a bit more. Pork green chile sauce was bland and cold. And did we mention it was cold? We couldn't get over it. #iceicebaby #youreascoldasice
Fried Avocado Sandwich: sunny egg, grifford's bacon, comeback sauce, tater roll. Megan thought the bread was too dry, April and Shelby thought it was fine. Overall this was just ok. Most of the flavor came from the bacon, couldn't really taste the comeback sauce. If you enjoy the combo of egg, avocado, and bacon then try this, if you are looking for more flavor then order something else. Personally, we would try the chicken biscuit... can't believe we didn't order it to begin with...
In Conclusion
Overall, a solid date night or brunch choice. Love the decor and the green space in the back that is open to neighborhood use. Don't expect any menu item to knock your socks off (well, except for the apple butter) but you also won't be disappointed. Megan enjoyed the dinner menu more than the brunch one. We will be back!
